HOUGHTON, NY – Senior Nathan Bowers led a pack of Nazareth runners across the finish line in the lead group of runners as the Golden Flyers won the Empire 8 team championship with a score of 23 points.
Bowers was second overall with a time of 25:48.2 and Nazareth had runners in six of the next seven places as the Golden Flyers easily won the team points race.
Nazareth had 23 points with its top five finishers. St. John Fisher (56 points) was second followed by Houghton (62), Utica (107), Alfred (145), Keuka (190) and Medaille (209).
Just two seconds behind Bowers in third place overall was junior Matt Reimann with a time of 25:50.2. Reimann was also named the Empire 8 Torchbearer Award winner.
The fifth place finisher and third Golden Flyer to cross the line was sophomore Cade Eells (26:08.3) and senior Nathan McNally was next at 26:11.2 while freshman Joey Everts (26:11.9) rounded out the scoring for Nazareth.
Freshman Antonio Benitez (26:17.6) was eighth overall and sophomore Ethan Kenyon (26:28.3) was ninth.
Freshman Connor Jackson (26:58.6), junior Kenny Williams (27:04.3) and senior Lucas Sharron (27:10.6) also had top-20 finishes for the Golden Flyers.
The Golden Flyers have now won three consecutive team titles at the Empire 8 Championships.
Nazareth will run next at the Niagara Regional NCAA Qualifier race November 12 at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester.
