ELMIRA, NY – Antonio Sargent had 14 kills and Owen Wickens added 11 kills for the Nazareth College Men's Volleyball team but the Golden Flyers dropped a pair of matchs to SUNY New Paltz, ranked No. 5 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll, Saturday in neutral-site United Volleyball Conference (UVC) matches played at Elmira College.
New Paltz (5-3 overall 5-2 UVC) won both matches in three sets with the first finishing 25-19, 25-20, 25-14 and the second match had set scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-16.
Nazareth was led by Wickens in the first match as he recorded nine kills and also had a pair of blocks. Sargent added six kills while Trent Caviness handed out 19 assists and Seth Terzo led the defense with seven digs.
In the second match, Sargent recorded eight kills and Kaleb Luton added five kills. Jason Proud and Wickens each had seven assists and Terzo led the defense again with eight digs.
The matches were the final two of the regular season and the Golden Flyers now wait for the final seeding to be announced for the upcoming UVC Tournament. Matches in the tournament are set to begin Friday and continue Sunday.
