ELMIRA, NY – Freshman Owen Wickens led the Nazareth College Men's Volleyball team with six kills but SUNY New Paltz, ranked No. 3 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll, took advantage of an undermanned Golden Flyers squad and posted a 3-0 victory in the semifinal round of the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Tournament Friday afternoon in Speidel Gymnasium.
New Paltz (7-3) won the match by set scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-13. The Hawks will face the winner of the St. John Fisher vs. Vassar match in Sunday's championship.
The Hawks had a .361 attack percentage for the match including a .583 in the second set when they did not commit and error.
Wickens had six kills, three assists and three digs for Nazareth (5-7) who played with a limited roster due to Covid-19 protocols. Sophomore
Nate Allen added four kills and four digs while fellow sophomore
Trent Caviness handed out 13 assists and added four digs. Sophomore
Seth Terzo led the Nazareth defense with six digs.
