ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Antonio Sargent led the Nazareth College Men's Volleyball team with 17 kills and freshman Owen Wickens added 13 kills but it was not enough as St. John Fisher, ranked No. 6 in the national American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, came from behind for wins in the fourth set and capped the match with a 15-11 win in the fifth.
The Cardinals (7-3 overall, 5-1 UVC) dropped the first set 25-22 but tied the match with a 25-22 win in the second set before Nazareth (5-4, 4-2 UVC) took a lead with a 25-29 win in the third. St. John Fisher rallied late for a 25-22 win in the fourth and recorded kills in three of the final five points for the 15-11 in the fifth set.
Sargent led the Nazareth offense with his 17 kills and also had four blocks. Wickens had 13 kills, 15 digs and three blocks while sophomore Kaleb Luton recorded nine kills and three blocks. Sophomore Nate Allen and senior Jacob Rhea each had eight kills with Allen adding eight digs and Rhea chipping in four blocks.
Sophomore Trent Caviness handed out 44 assists and fellow sophomore Seth Terzo led the defense with 14 digs.
Nazareth wraps up the regular season with a pair of matches at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. against No. 5 ranked SUNY New Paltz Saturday at Elmira.
