HOUGHTON, NY – Sophomores Kaleb Luton and Connor McCauslin each won events to lead the Nazareth College Men's Track and Field team at the Houghton Invitational Saturday at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
Luton was the top finisher in the long jump with a winning leap of 6.57 meters (21' 6 ¾") while McCauslin was the first place finisher in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 7.29 seconds.
Luton was second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.57) and McCauslin was third with a time of 8.84.
Sophomore Mike Welch was second to McCauslin in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.37 seconds. Welch was third in the 200-meters (23.53), McCauslin was fifth (23.93) and Luton was seventh (24.15).
Sophomore Nathan Bowers was second in the mile (4:31.94) as he was edged by a mere .17 seconds at the finish line. Junior Josh Tomaka was third in the race (4:32.50). Junior Matthew Johnson was fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 53.40 and senior Christopher Celecki was second in the 800-meters in 2:04.17 with Bowers taking fourth in 2:04.68. Sophomore Lucas Sharron was fourth in the 3K with a time of 9:31.30.
The 4x400 relay with Tomaka, Celecki, freshman Ahviere Reese and senior Michael Brown captured third place with a time of 3:43.28.
Joining Luton with a strong finish in the field events was sophomore Arthur DeVasto who was fifth in the high jump as he cleared 1.66 meters (5' 5 ¼").
The road meet was the final tune-up before the Empire 8 Championships that will be held at Nazareth March 20.
