ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Stephen Gabel, Most Valuable Player of last week's Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout, has been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period that concluded Nov. 21.

A native of Victor, N.Y. and a graduate of Fairport High School, Gabel led the Golden Flyers to tournament wins over Rochester and RIT last week as Nazareth improved to 4-1 overall. He scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed six rebounds in last Thursday's 81-73 victory over Rochester. He also went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line in that game. He added 20 points and eight rebounds in Saturday's 90-77 win over RIT. Gabel leads the Golden Flyers in scoring at 19.3 points per game and is second in rebounding at 6.3 per game.

Nazareth resumes its non-conference schedule with its first road game of the season Tuesday at Oswego at 7:30 p.m.
