Volleyball Sweeps Past Harrisburg in Exhibition Match

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Nazareth College Women's Volleyball team used a balanced attack to cruise to a 3-0 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College in an exhibition match on the first day of play at the Lycoming Invitational.

Junior Kaylee Kelly led Nazareth (7-6) with 10 kills while the trio of freshmen Tessa Grover, Zoe Tylipakis and senior Olivia Quick each recorded seven kills. Nazareth won by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-13.

In the first set, junior Eva Lyko had four kills and a .800 attack percentage while Quick added three kills and a .750 percentage to lead the offense. Freshman Kendall Jock and Tylipakis each recorded two aces for the Golden Flyers.

In the second set, Nazareth fell behind 11-9 and head coach Cal Wickens called a time out to refocus the team. The strategy worked as Nazareth scored the next 12 consecutive points to take a commanding 21-11 lead and cruised to the win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Another run in the third set helped the Golden Flyers put the match away. Nazareth led by a slim 9-8 margin but scored six consecutive points to move to a 15-8 lead and went on to the win.

Grover added 23 assists and three digs to her totals while Quick handed out nine assists and had four digs. Senior McKenzie Hart led the defense with eight digs and Tylipakis had five aces.

Nazareth will face Alfred State at 11 a.m. and host Lycoming at 3 p.m.
