HOUGHTON, NY – Sophomore Brenna Johnson finished second in the 200m race and was also fifth in the 60-meter dash to lead the Nazareth College women's track and field team to a final fourth place team finish at the Empire 8 Championships Saturday.
St. John Fisher was first in the team rankings with 165.5 points followed by Utica (133.5 points), Houghton (85) and Nazareth (65), The Golden Flyers finished ahead of Alfred (43) and Hartwick (3).
Johnson was fifth with an 8.09 time on the 60m dash and teammate sophomore Madison Sabourin was sixth (8.19). Johnson clocked a 26.48 to finish second in the 200m dash and Sabourin was ninth in the race.
In the 800m run, junior Kelly Artini was fourth for Nazareth with a 2:27.27 and sophomore Claire Bargabos was sixth, freshman Gabrielle Larson was seventh and junior Lydia Dewart was eighth for the Golden Flyers.
In the 3K run, sophomore Erin Reyner was sixth (11:00.43) and freshman Megan Morin was seventh. In the 60m Hurdles, junior Abbey Szumloz was eighth (10.86) for Nazareth.
In the field events, freshman Sarah Merriwether captured third (1.50-meters) in the high jump and was fifth (9.97 meters) in the triple jump. Fellow freshman McKenzie Leahey was sixth in the triple jump while sophomores Bailey Robinson and Gabrielle Pighetti were fifth and eighth respectively in the weight throw.
