ROCHESTER, NY – Nine different athletes had top-10 finishes for the Nazareth College women's track and field team Saturday as the Golden Flyers competed in the RIT Invitational in the Gordon Fieldhouse.
Sophomore Grace Blankenberg posted a pair of top-10 finishes as she was eighth in the shot put with a 10.60-meter (34' 9 ½") throw and was also fifth in the weight throw with a final distance of 13.65 meters.
Teammate sophomore Gabrielle Pighetti was fourth in the shot put (11.23 (36' 10 ¼")) and fellow sophomore Bailey Robinson was ninth in the weight throw (13.03) for Nazareth.
Freshman Sarah Merriwether took fourth in the high jump as she cleared the 1.56-meter (5' 1 ¼") height. She cleared her final two heights on her third attempt at each to advance in the competition.
The 4x800 relay with sophomore Claire Bargabos, junior Elizabeth Decker, junior Abbey Szumloz and junior Kelly Artini placed fifth with a time of 4:33.70 in the final event of the afternoon.
Decker added a sixth place finish in the 400 (1:05.36) as Szumloz was 10th and junior Bryanna Roos was 11th for Nazareth. Bargabos was eighth and Artini ninth in the 500 while sophomore Erin Reyner was seventh in the mile with a time of 5:32.52. Freshman Emily Weaver was 11th in the 3000-meters for the Golden Flyers with her time of 11:59.84.
The Golden Flyers will be home next weekend at the Golisano Training Center as Nazareth hosts the Conference Challenge Cup Saturday.
