UTICA, NY – Senior Alycia Eaton was successful in defending both of her Empire 8 titles form a year ago as she won both the long jump and triple jump and was named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet for the Nazareth College men's and women's track & field teams at the Empire 8 Championships that concluded Saturday afternoon at Utica College.

The Golden Flyers were 4th in the final team standings on the women's side and 6th in the men's competition. Stevens (172 men, 159 women) won both team titles while Utica (162 men, 120 women) and St. John Fisher (116 men, 82 women) were second and third in both the men's and women's final standings. Nazareth (79) was fourth for the women followed by Houghton (41), Alfred (15) and Hartwick (0). Houghton (26) was 4th for the men followed by Alfred (11), Nazareth (9) and Hartwick (0).

Eaton won the long jump (5.46 meters) and the triple jump (10.98 meters) as she earned All Atlantic Regional qualifying standards in each event for Nazareth. Graduate student Kathleen Irwin was 2nd in the triple jump and 6th in the long jump to earn points for the Golden Flyers.

Eaton was also a member of the record breaking 4x400 relay. Brenna Johnson, Eaton, Lydia Dewart and Maria Staehr combined to win the 4x400 with a meet record time of 4:05.19. Johnson added a 5th place finish in the 60-meter dash while Eaton, Staehr and Johnson finished 3-4-5 in the 200-meter dash. Staehr was also 3rd in the 800-meters and Dierdre Brett was 6th in the 800 finals for Nazareth.

Brett also scored eight team points with a second place finish in the mile while Hayley Cronin added a 6th place finish in the 5K race.

The Distance Medley Relay with Staehr, Claire Bargabos, Dewart and Brett finished second.

In the field events, Sara Thomas was 6th in the high jump and Bailey Robinson picked up points with her sixth place finish in the weight throw.

On the men's side, Christopher Celecki and Josh Tomaka finished 4th and 5th respectively in the 5K run and the rest of the Nazareth points came in the relay races as the 4x400 relay with Matthew Johnson, Patrick Healy, Jack Wessel and Jason Hall picked up a 6th place finish while the Distance Medley Relay with Hall, Johnson, Wessel and Healy took 5th place for the Golden Flyers.

The All Atlantic Regional Qualifier will be March 1-2 at Ithaca College for all those that earned qualifying marks.
