ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Oswego outscored Nazareth 45-39 in the second half to erase a two-point halftime deficit Tuesday as the Lakers defeated the Golden Flyers in a non-conference men's basketball game, 77-73, at the Kidera Gymnasium.
Nazareth lost for the second straight game after a 4-0 start to drop to 4-2. Oswego extended its unbeaten record to 4-0.
Four players scored in double digits for the Golden Flyers, including junior guard
Isaac Nelson, who connected for a career-high 14 points with two three-point baskets.
Zach Stenglein led the Golden Flyers with 17 points and six assists.
Stephen Gabel had 15 points and seven rebounds and
Cody Green scored 13.
After falling behind early, Nazareth led for most of the first half. The Golden Flyers were up by as many as eight points, 34-26, following a three-pointer by Green with 3:09 left. The Lakers, however, rallied to within two points, 34-32, at the break.
The game was tied five times in the second half, the final time at 53-53 following a three-pointer by Nelson with 8:51 left. Oswego then scored the next eight points -- all by freshman Jeremiah Sparks, who scored a game-high 25 points -- and never trailed again.
Nazareth stayed close and drew within four on a basket by Stenglein, then two, 74-72, on a three-pointer by Gabel with :10 left. The Lakers then sank three free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win.
Sparks also had 11 rebounds to go with his 25 points for Oswego. Liam Sanborn added 18 points and Brandon Gartland had 14.
Oswego went 22-for-50 from the field (44%) and 4-for-12 from three-point range. The Lakers also paraded to the foul line 43 times and sank 29 shots (67.4%). Nazareth went 30-for-71 from the field (42.3%) and 8-for-27 from three-point range (29.6%).
Nazareth is off this weekend, but returns to the hardwood to play SUNY Poly at home Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
