Biography

Zach Stenglein Accounting and Finance major... son of Jeff and Tracy Stenglein, Rochester, N.Y... returning for a fifth season of eligibility, Stenglein was one of the top players on the team and in the Empire 8 conference in 2021-22 ... he was named to the US Basketball Writers Association All-Area team and was a Second Team All-Empire 8 selection ... he became teh 28th player in Nazareth history to eclipse the 1,000-career point milestone against Keuka (2/12/22) ... he was named the VanGundy Award winner which recognizes work ethic and dedication to the team both in and out of season ... he finished second in scoring with 14.1 points per game and added 4.1 rebounds per game ... he also led the team with 103 assists and 55 steals ... he recorded 19 double-digit scoring games and nine 20+ scoring efforts ... he netted a season-best 25 points at Russell Sage (1/8/22).

2020-21: Stenglein saw his 2021 season come to a premature end after nine games due to a hand injury... started all nine games and finished second on the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game... also averaged 4.9 rebounds per game and led the team in steals with 17... finished second on the team with 33 assists (3.7 per game)... had six double-digits scoring games with a season-high of 20 coming in Nazareth's double overtime win at Russell Sage on 3/19/21... had 10 rebounds at Houghton on 3/13/21... named as a second-team Empire 8 Conference all-star... represented the Golden Flyers on the Honors Court (3.20 GPA or better), sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

2019-20: Stenglein was a versatile performer  for the Golden Flyers in 2019-20 as he appeared in all 27 games, including 26 as a starter... finished second on the team (and fifth in the Empire 8) in scoring at 15.7 points per game and led the league in assists (4.7 per game) and steals (2.4 per game)... made 47 three-point baskets and a team-best 110 free throws... averaged 3.7 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 18 blocked shots... earned second-team Empire 8 Conference all-star honors and was named the E8 Defensive Player of the Year... produced double digit point totals 23 times and scored 20 points or more seven times, including a career-best of 29 in an overtime game at Alfred on 1/11/20... scored 22 and went 11-for-11 from the free throw line in a win over Utica on 2/14/20... added 24 points in a win over Sage in the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament on 2/28/20... twice passed for a career-best nine assists -- at home in a win over St. John Fisher on 1/28/20 and against Utica on 2/14/20... named E8 Player of the Week for 12/9/19.

2018-19: Stenglein played regularly for the Golden Flyers in 2018-19 as he appeared in all 26 games, averaging 14.7 minutes per game... contributed 6.2 points per game and finished second on the team with 31 three-point baskets... had five double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 17 points (including 5-for-6 from three-point range) in a win at Hartwick on 1/25/19.

Scholastic: a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, Stenglein played basketball and volleyball there... played at Irondequoit High School before that and was a three-time team MVP and first-team all-Greater Rochester selection in 2017... also fifth team all-state in helping the Eagles to Section Five and state titles... named to sectional all-tournament team three times.
