Women's Hoops Keeps Rolling With Win At Fredonia, 54-52

FREDONIA, NY – Junior Rachel Benedict delivered the game-winning layup with :01 second remaining Tuesday night, lifting the Golden Flyers over host Fredonia, 54-52.  In addition, freshman Jadyn Abrams recorded a career-high 14 points to keep Nazareth rolling with its third-straight win.
 
Head coach Kelly Dunne's squad keeps an unblemished record at 3-0, while the Blue Devils remain winless at 0-3.
 
Aside from the opening quarter when the visitors opened up their largest lead of the day, 13-4, after a Lizzie Straub triple, the contest was closely contested throughout.

Leading by nine with under four minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Nazareth went scoreless, allowing Fredonia to trim the deficit to 13-11. 

The Golden Flyers managed to overcome a poor shooting night from the field at 31.1 percent (19-for-61), corralling 12 steals, to go along with a +5 margin on the boards (40-35).

Abrams strongest quarter came in the second, when she notched seven of the Golden Flyers 16 points for a 29-27 halftime lead.
 
After a third quarter in which the Golden Flyers largest lead was four, Abrams was able to give Nazareth breathing room following a 3-pointer with 5:49 to play, making it 48-41.
 
An 11-4 run for the Blue Devils over the next 4:21 evened the score at 52 apiece.
 
With just :28 seconds on the clock, Nazareth was able to hold for the last shot of the game, setting the stage for Benedict to seal the victory as the clock neared 0.  Benedict recorded her third double-double of the year behind 13 points (4-for-10) and 14 rebounds.
 
Straub was also in double figures, canning 5-of-11 field goals for 12 points, to go along with a team-high three steals.
 
Isabella Gjonaj contributed a balanced six points and six rebounds.

Nazareth returns to action November 29 at Keuka, with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
