Rochester, NY – The Nazareth men's swimming and diving squad, which owns a perfect 5-0 record on the season, was ranked ninth in the Northeast Region (South) on Thursday by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Carnegie Mellon was ranked first in the region, while Stevens (# 4) and SUNY Geneseo (# 6) were also in the mix.
The ranking is unprecedented territory for the Golden Flyers, who are coming off a 154-144 victory of the University of Rochester last Saturday. It was Nazareth's first win over the Yellowjackets since the 2000 season.
The Golden Flyers have smashed several school records already this year, thanks to mix of strong veterans, coupled with a dynamic freshman class.
Said second year head coach
Scott Whitbeck, "We certainly have had a great season." "It is nice gain the recognition regionally and get an idea to where we stand. Hopefully we can use this as motivation to get better as we shoot for teams like Geneseo and Stevens."
Nazareth will put its unbeaten record on the line twice this weekend, traveling to LeMoyne for a 6 p.m. meet on Friday, before turning around for its Senior Day meet against Utica at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
