President's List l Academic Teams

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its President's List for the Fall 2016 semester with 76 Nazareth College student-athletes being recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.  In all, over 880 student-athletes from the league's nine full-time members and nine affiliate institutions were recognized with the distinction.
 
Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive contact on- and off-campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."
 
Additionally, the conference recognized 13 Nazareth teams on the Empire 8 All-Academic Team, up from 12 a year ago. This distinction is granted to teams that have registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester, headlined by the Nazareth softball team with a 3.49 GPA.  Other Nazareth teams included were women's soccer (3.41), women's basketball (3.41), women's volleyball (3.4), women's tennis (3.39), JV women's soccer (3.38), men's basketball (3.32), hockey (3.32), dance (3.32), women's golf (3.31), field hockey (3.28), women's track and field (3.25), women's lacrosse (3.21). 

A total of 117 teams were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester.  The 117 teams is two off the all-time record of 119 which was set in the spring of 2016. 

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a record number of 4,524 student-athletes who combined for an Empire 8 wide fall semester grade point average of 3.203.  The 3.203 gpa is the second highest among Empire 8 members, ranking behind the gpa mark of 3.216 set in the spring of 2016.
