ITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca dominated Nazareth Saturday in an Empire 8 men's lacrosse game as the Bombers scored six goals each in the first and fourth quarters of a 19-5 victory over the Golden Flyers.
Ithaca, ranked 16th nationally, improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Nazareth, ranked 11th, is 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8.
Nazareth scored two of the game's first three goals as
Paul Walter and
Jason Partridge converted chances, before Ithaca scored six straight goals and 11 of the next 12 to take an insurmountable 12-3 advantage early in the third quarter.
The Bombers dominated statistically with sizeable advantages in shots (51-31) and ground balls (32-20). Nazareth's
Seth DeLisle won 16 of 27 faceoffs, but the Golden Flyers' offense was stymied by 21 turnovers.
Joe Eiskant had two goals for Nazareth with
Hunter Burdick also scoring. Ithaca also was able to hold scoreless Nazareth's high-scoring lacrosse tandem of
Troy Haefele and
Luke Wooters, who did combine for four assists.
John Januskiewicz scored five goals for the Bombers, who also got four goals each from Jack Shumway and Michael Walker. Jake Cotton added two goals and four assists.
Michael Cuciti started in goal for Nazareth and yielded nine goals with just two saves. Scot Brown came on in the second quarter and made 11 saves while allowing 10 goals.
Nazareth resumes its E8 schedule Wednesday with a road goal at Utica at 4 p.m. The Golden Flyers are home Saturday against Hartwick at 2 p.m.
