ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore
Brendan Wind drained a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:18 remaining (59-57), before Rochester muscled its way back for a 64-59 victory over the Golden Flyers Saturday night in the final game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.
Tyler Stenglein was named to the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout All-Tournament Team.
Nazareth has now lost back-to-back games, falling to 4-2 on the year, while Rochester remains perfect at 8-0.
Trailing 49-38 near the midway point of the second half, Nazareth used a 10-0 run over a 2:29 span to come within one point of the Yellowjackets. During the run, Wind went 4-for-4 from the line and added a layup.
Josh Gillard also drilled a 3-pointer for the Golden Flyers.
Rochester built its lead back up to five before Nazareth clawed back.
Cody Green brought Nazareth to within one point at 55-54 with 3:39 on the clock following a 3-pointer and Stenglein gave Nazareth its first lead since the first half on the ensuing possession.
Following Wind's go-ahead 3-pointer, Rochester answered with two free throws to knot the score at 59 under the 2 minute mark.
After a Nazareth turnover, Rochester took the lead for good with layup at 1:23. Rochester drained some free throws down the stretch to seal the win as Nazareth failed to convert its opportunities.
Green was red-hot from 3-point range in the first half, going 3-for-4. His third 3-pointer of the half tied the game at 24 apiece with 2:47 to play. He finished 4-of-8 from downtown to lead Nazareth with 15 points.
Rochester closed the half on an 8-0 run to a 32-24 lead and the momentum going into the break.
Wind poured in 11 points (3-for-11) and dished out nine assists. Stenglein finished with 10 points on 5-for-10 and grabbed nine boards.
Nazareth will not be in action until December 16 when it takes on Lycoming College at 8 p.m. in Williamsport, PA for Crosstown Challenge at Lycoming.
