ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Oneonta for the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday. The meet was hosted by Hartwick College. In the men's 8-kilometer race, freshman
Nicasio Gristina was the first Golden Flyer to finish. He placed 42nd with a time of 28:38.
Nazareth finished seventh overall with 198 total points. Ithaca tallied 30 points to take first place easily. St. John Fisher finished with 68 points for second place. Stevens and Utica finished third and fourth with 72 points and 74 points, respectively.
Senior
Matt Battaglia finished 11 seconds after Gristina in 45th place with a time of 28:49, while sophomore
Jack Wessel was 49th with a time of 29:12.
Thomas Lannon,
Jacob Murray, and
Edward Ely rounded out the Nazareth runners. Lannon was 72nd with a time of 30:32, followed by Murray in 73rd place with a time of 30:36. Ely was 79th overall with a time of 31:04.
Senior
Emily Thompson finished seventh overall in the women's 5-kilometer race with a time of 19:12. Nazareth finished third overall with 76 points.
Ithaca took first overall with 25 points after having six runners finish in the top-nine spots. Stevens was second with 42 total points.
Junior
Claire Ludington placed 12th and was Nazareth's second finisher with a time of 19:29. She led a pack of Golden Flyers to the finish line. Classmate
Samantha Goble was 18th with a time of 19:49, senior
Jamie DiSalvo was 21st with a time of 19:55, and freshman
Megan Menz was 25th with a time of 20:05.
Additionally, sophomore
Sage Miller was 34th with a time of 20:46, while classmate
Eileen Shea finished two spots later in 36th place with a time of 20:51. Sophomore
Danielle Foeller rounded out the team in 65th place with a time of 22:44.
The Golden Flyers are in action again on November 12th when they compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals in Glassboro, N.J.
