Updated Stats HOUGHTON, NY - Nazareth found its rhythm in the second half, shooting over 53 percent (16-of-30) from the field, to earn a 69-41 victory over host Houghton College Wednesday night. Sam Sorge scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the half to lead the charge and Veronica Peck dished out a career-high 10 assissts without any turnovers.
Nazareth improves to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the Empire 8 with the win, while Houghton falls to 8-10 and 2-7, respectively.
To open the game, Houghton stormed out to a 15-5 lead, forcing the visitors to play from behind. Samantha Peebles capped an 8-0 run to close the quarter bringing Nazareth to within 15-13.
In the second quarter, Lindsey Kelly converted two free throws to put Nazareth ahead for good at 21-19 with just under four minutes to play.
The Golden Flyers held a 28-22 lead going into the locker room.
Nazareth had a breakout quarter in the third, outscoring Houghton 27-11 to widen its lead to 55-33.
Sorge connected on 4-of-5 3-pointers in the game, including three in the third quarter.
Houghton never threatened in the fourth quarter and Nazareth closed out the game for its second-straight victory.
Sorge finished 8-of-16 and dished out three assists in the game.
Kelly notched her eighth double-double of the season on 16 points (5-of-8) and 10 rebounds.
Peebles was also in double-figures with 11 points (4-of-7), while grabbing five rebounds.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Ithaca College at 4 p.m.
