Updated Stats ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth snapped a 25-game losing streak to Ithaca College Saturday night, taking down the Bombers 63-54 at Kidera Gymnasium. It was the Golden Flyers first win over Ithaca since the 2001-02 season.
The pivotal conference win pushes Nazareth's overall record to 14-5 and 7-3 in conference play. Meanwhile, Ithaca falls to 11-8 and 7-3.
The first half was tightly contested with Nazareth holding a slight edge, 28-27, going into the break.
Lindsey Kelly and
Sam Sorge combined for 20 of the 28 points in the half.
Nazareth used an explosive third quarter to open up a 49-35 advantage, outscoring the opposition 21-12 in the period.
The final quarter was relatively even between the squads, however, Nazareth was able to hold on for the victory.
Kelly showed her senior leadership for Nazareth in the second half scoring 15 of her game-high 26 points, while adding 10 rebounds. The Doylestown, PA native registered her ninth double-double of the season after pulling down 17 boards in the contest.
Sorge ended with 17 points, including going 5-of-10 from 3-point land.
Julia Brew had eight points for Nazareth while
Veronica Peck also chipped in seven points and four assists.
The Golden Flyers will return to the court next Saturday at East Avenue rival St. John Fisher for a 4 p.m. tip.
