Nazareth Well-Represented With E8 Fall Academic Honors

President's List

Academic Teams

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its President's List for the Fall 2015 semester with 75 Nazareth College student-athletes being recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.  In all, more than 800 student-athletes from the league's nine full-time members and nine affiliate institutions were recognized with the distinction.

Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive contact on- and off-campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

Additionally, the conference recognized 12 Nazareth teams on the Empire 8 All-Academic Team. This distinction is granted to teams that have registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester, headlined by the Nazareth men's tennis team with a 3.51 GPA.  Other Nazareth teams included were women's soccer (3.49), hockey (3.45), women's swimming and diving (3.41), JV women's soccer (3.39), softball (3.38), women's lacrosse (3.38), women's cross country (3.36), women's track and field (3.34), women's basketball (3.31), women's tennis (3.28), and field hockey (3.2).

A total of 109 teams were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester.  The 109 teams is the second highest number of teams to earn the Academic honor in one semester as the Spring 2015 semester saw 112 teams achieve the 3.2 standard.

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a total of 4,433 student-athletes who combined for an Empire 8 wide fall semester grade point average of 3.186.  The 3.186 GPA is a new high among Empire 8 members, breaking the old GPA mark of 3.172 set in the spring of 2015.
