ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College basketball squads will host St. John Fisher College tonight for the first go around of the Battle of the Beaks. Tickets are 5 dollars with all of the proceeds going to the Golisano Children's Hospital, most notably children born prematurely.
The men's teams will tip at 6 p.m. in a battle of undefeated conference foes, with Nazareth sitting at 8-5 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8, while Fisher is 9-3 and 3-0, respectively. The matchup features two of the top big men in the conference.
Mitch Ford leads the Empire 8 with 24.7 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Fisher's Keegan Ryan, the reigning conference player of the year, is averaging 16.5 points and 9.5 boards. Each squad enters the game on a five-game win streak.
The women will square off at 8 p.m. for the East Avenue showdown. Nazareth (10-3, 3-1) will look to break the Cardinals (10-2, 3-0) five-game win streak. The contest features Nazareth's top scoring defense (56.7 ppg) against Fisher's top scoring offense (77.2 ppg). The Golden Flyers boast the leading scoring in the conference with
Lindsey Kelly's 18.7 points per game, while Fisher guard Mary Kate Cusack ranks fourth with 15.8.
