PITTSFORD, N.Y. – A dismal first-half shooting display led to the undoing of the Nazareth men's basketball team Saturday in the seventh-place game of the annual Wendy's College Classic.

The Golden Flyers made just six field goals in the first half of an 83-66 loss to St. John Fisher at the Cardinals' Varsity Gymnasium.

The loss was Nazareth's third of the week and fifth straight overall as the Golden Flyers dropped to 3-5. Nazareth closes out its first semester schedule with a non-conference game at Keystone Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. Fisher, ranked 10th nationally by d3hoops.com going into the week, improved to 4-2.

Freshman  Brendan Wind led Nazareth with 14 points before fouling out late in the second half. Sophomore Tyler Stenglein had 13 and senior Mitch Ford scored 11. Keegan Ryan and Alex Sausville each had 19 points for Fisher.

Nazareth started the game by making just two of its first 19 shots from the field and went more than 14 minutes between its second and third baskets. Fisher, the tournament's top seed, took advantage by racing to a double-digit lead in the first six minutes of play. Fisher led by as many as 25 points in the first half as the Golden Flyers searched for an offensive combination that would work. The Cardinals made 13 of 26 first-half shots, including 5-of-11 from three-point range, to settle for a 43-21 lead at the break.

Nazareth played better in the second half, making 13 of 25 shots (52 percent), but couldn't shrink the Fisher lead into single digits. The Golden Flyers closed within 10 points, 61-51, after a basket by Brendan Wind with 7:59 left. Fisher then got two free throws by Ryan and a basket by Chaz Lott to extend the lead again.

Ford added a game-high 12 rebounds and freshman Jake Burgio came off the bench to combine eight points with nine rebounds. Fisher made 25 of 52 shots (48 percent) for the game and 9 of 21 shots from three-point range. Ryan added nine rebounds and went 9-for-10 from the foul line. Lott contributed 13 points and nine assists.
