Justin LaCorte led the way for the Golden Flyers with one goal apiece. Junior
Ed Zdolshek had a game-high 33 saves to maintain Nazareth's lead through the third period.
With the win Nazareth improves to 10-7-3 overall and 6-2-2 in conference play. Following the loss, the Soaring Eagles fall to 9-8-3 overall and 3-5-2 in ECAC West play. The Golden Flyers remain tied for first place in the ECAC West Conference with Hobart. Neumann stands in third place three points behind the Golden Flyers and Statesmen.
Tamasy opened up the scoring for the Golden Flyers with 4:48 remaining in the first period. He deflected a shot from the point in front of the Elmira net. Junior Don Oliveri hustled to keep the puck in the zone, then he took a shot from the point to set up Nazareth's first goal. The goal was Tamasy's fifth of the season and was scored on the power play.
Elmira responded in the second period with a power play goal by Tommy Sumi 5:49 into the second. Their goal came 11 seconds after the Golden Flyers had killed off an earlier penalty. Greg Whittle and Jarryd ten Vaanholt were credited with the assists on the Soaring Eagles power play goal.
Less than nine minutes later, LaCorte scored the eventual game-winning goal which was his fifth of the season. Junior
Scott Dawson set up the scoring opportunity with a shot from the point that was saved. Freshman
John Power's rebound was saved, but LaCorte was there to bury the puck into the Elmira net.
Zdolshek earned the win with 15 saves in the first period and 18 combined saves in the second and third periods. Nazareth defenders prevented Elmira from scoring in the final eighty seconds when Elmira pulled its goalie and brought on a sixth skater. The Golden Flyers kept the puck out of the zone and tied the puck up behind the net for the majority of the final minutes. Junior
Rocky Gruttadauria blocked the final shot from about 15 feet inside the blue line in the closing seconds to secure the victory.
Elmira finished the contest with a 34-31 shot advantage, and Nazareth had a 32-31 edge in face-off wins. Gruttadauria won 10 of 12 faceoffs for the Golden Flyers.
Elmira goalie Sal Magliocco recorded 29 saves in the loss.
The Golden Flyers resume their ECAC West schedule on February 6th and 7th with critical conference games at Manhattanville.
