Buzard, McAdam win Kidera Awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Graduating Nazareth seniors Corey McAdam and Lindsey Buzard have earned the 2010 Robert A. Kidera Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is given to students who excel in both athletics and academics.

A native of Fairport, N.Y. and a graduate of Fairport High School, McAdam has been a member of the men's basketball team for four years. McAdam currently holds a cumulative grade-point average of 3.15 as a psychology major. In March of 2010, McAdam became Nazareth's first-ever first-team All-American after being chosen by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. McAdam also earned first-team all region honors from d3hoops.com, has been named Male Athlete of the Year by Rochester's Press-Radio Club, and has been honored as the Empire 8 Conference's Player of the Year. Also during the 2009-2010 basketball season, the senior point guard led his team to the Empire 8 Conference Championship and the NCAA Tournament. At the season's conclusion, McAdam averaged 21.6 points and 5.6 assists per game. He was also shooting better than 82 percent from the free-throw line (197-for-239). During the 2008-2009 season, McAdam earned first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star honors and Empire 8 Player of the Week honors. McAdam was also named to the East Region all-star team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and was an honorable mention All-American. In the 2007-2008 season, McAdam earned first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star honors and first-team all-East from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Furthermore, he was named to all-tournament teams for the Chuck Resler Classic at UR and for the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament. During the 2006-2007 season, McAdam was a second-team Empire 8 Conference all-star as well as the league Rookie of the Year.

Buzard, of Perry, N.Y. and a graduate of Perry High School, is a three-year member of the women's swimming and diving team. She currently holds a cummulative grade-point average of 3.9 and is graduating as a Spanish major with inclusive education. During the past season, Buzard was named Diver of the Meet at the 2009 Empire 8 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. Buzard's success at the championship meet qualified her for the NCAA Division III Championships in both the one-meter board and three-meter event. At the championships, she broke the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association and Empire 8 Championship records in 2:18.32 in the 200. In addition, Buzard was named Empire 8 Player of the Week in February of 2010. During the 2008-2009 season, Buzard earned second-team all-Empire 8 honors in the three-meter diving event.She also placed fifth on the 1-meter board and fourth off the 3-meter at the Empire 8 Conference meet during the 2006-2007 season.

Student-athletes must hold a grade-point average of 3.0 or above to be eligable for the Kidera Award. Furthermore, they must exhibit positive character and leadership skills in campus activities. The award was established in honor of the late Robert A. Kidera, Nazareth College's president from 1976-1984.
