Nazareth opens season at P&G meet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened its men's and women's swimming and diving seasons Saturday with the annual Purple and Gold Meet. With 28 alumni on hand to offer support, the Purple team outscored the Gold team 106-93.

Junior Dan Walton aided the Purple team by winning the 100-meter freestyle (:59.58) and participating on the winning 200-meter free relay team along with freshman Bryan Geary, junior Jaclyn Conklin and sophomore Jacob Kline.

Kline also won the 100-meter backstroke (1:06.55) and was touched out in the 200-meter freestyle by Gold team member Mike Bidwell, who also finished first in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.87).

Sophomore Carissa Risucci, competing for the Purple team, finished second in Bidwell in the 100-meter breaststroke and competed on the winning 200-meter medley relay team along with Amanda Rogers, Rachel House and Rachel Hayes.

In addition to Bidwell's two wins, other Gold team winners were junior Jeremy Hudak in the 50-meter freestyle (:26.39); freshman Justin Sawran in the 100-meter butterfly (1:07.82) and the 400 freestyle (4:41.91) and sophomore McKenna Murphy in the 200 IM (2:37.71).

Nazareth opens its regular-season schedule Saturday at Alfred at 1 p.m.
