Chris Mendez produced 17 kills and junior
Will Siwy added 13 Wednesday as host Nazareth secured its first men's volleyball victory of the season by defeating D'Youville in a four-set match. Scores were 30-23, 30-26, 22-30, 30-28.
After dropping four matches last week, Nazareth tumbled to 14th in the latest Division III rankings. The Golden Flyers improved to 1-4 with Wednesday's win. D'Youville dropped to 5-3.
Siwy, a 6-foot-7 middle blocker, had six of his kills in the final set, including the match-clinching point to help Nazareth secure the victory. Nazareth led 27-23 in the final set following a pair of kills by Mendez. D'Youville closed to within 29-28 following a pair of kills by junior Jeremy Sajdak, who led the Spartans with 17 kills. Then Siwy got the final point.

Ellis Walsh and freshman
Robert Kraft each added nine kills, with Kraft contributing five blocks and three service aces. Senior setter
Kevin Kirchhoff amassed 53 assists.
For D'Youville, freshman Chris Temple contributed 16 kills and freshman setter JJ Senozetnik had 36 assists.
Nazareth is off this weekend before playing another home match Wednesday against SUNYIT at 7 p.m.
