LONDON, ONT. -- The Nazareth cross country team competed at the University of Western Ontario International Saturday, hosted by the Thames Valley Golf Course. The women's cross country team finished its 5-K race in 12th place while the men placed 15th in its 10-K race.
Guelph won the women's meet with a combined score of just 30 points. The Gryphons placed four runners in the top eight overall and seven in the top 16. Guelph fell just shy of beating the team record of 28 points, recorded by Osaka University in 2002. The McMaster Marauders and Western Mustangs finished second and third with 65 points and 101 points, respectively. The Golden Flyers tallied 366 points to finish in 12th place, between Waterloo (343 points) and York (393 points).
Senior
Shannon Bradley was Nazareth's top female finisher at the UWO International, placing 78th overall (20:18). Bradley was followed by fellow senior
Caitlyn Parmelee in 80th (20:28), freshman
Kelsey Ryan in 98th (20:02), and junior
Sarah Wilcox in 100th (21:15). Freshman
Kelsey Mash was the Golden Flyers' fifth runner in 106th place (21:37), while junior
Samantha Hickok (21:44), sophomore
Jordan Knutsen (21:44), junior
Jessica Goodrich (21:56) and freshman Christa Johnson (21:59) rounded out Nazareth's top-nine runners in 109th, 110th, 114th, and 115th, respectively.
In the men's race at UWO, Geneseo won the men's title by placing five runners in the top 14 places and tallying 44 points. Guelph finished in second place with 66 points, and Windsor placed third with 80 points. Nazareth recorded 388 points, behind RMC (383 points) and Nipissing (385 points).
Junior
Matt Morales was the Golden Flyer's top-finisher in 84th place as he recorded a 10-K time of 35:52. Sophomore
Peter Fekete was Nazareth's second runner to finish as he placed 89th overall in 36:06. Freshmen
Anthony Romeo (37:00) and
John Longo (37:01) finished 103rd and 104th overall. Sophomore
Tim Rutan was Nazareth's fifth finisher in 117th place (38:21). Rutan was followed by sophomores
Nick Spera (39:29) and
Donato DiRenzo (40:05) and freshman
Josh Strough (41:01) in 126th, 130th, and 131st.
Nazareth is off Saturday, October 3rd. The teams compete next on Saturday, October 10th when they host the Golden Flyer Invitational.
