OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Junior
Mark DeCirce scored four goals and added one assist and sophomore
Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar contributed a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists Friday to lead visiting Nazareth to a 14-7 men's lacrosse victory over Oswego.
The Golden Flyers, ranked 13th nationally, improved to 3-0, while Oswego dropped to 1-3 overall.
The game was close for much of the first half on a muddy track at Oswego, but a late first-half goal from Nazareth's #C.J. Estes# propelled the Golden Flyers to a 5-2 halftime lead. The Golden Flyers then broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Lakers 7-1 to go up 12-3 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Jacobs-Ferderbar scored all three of his goals in the third quarter and assisted on two other goals. DeCirce scored twice in the quarter and had his only assist.
Nazareth never trailed and went up 2-0 in the first quarter on goals by
John Manion on man-up and DeCirce at even strength. Estes scored twice in the second quarter, including a key goal with :01 left off a feed from long-stick
Kyle Brown to make the score 5-2 at the half. Junior midfielder
Mike Cummings also scored for Nazareth in the second period.
In the third quarter, Estes also had a goal for Nazareth as did senior midfielder
Alex Cole. Nazareth stayed comfortably ahead in the fourth quarter as DeCirce and Erinn O'Hara scored goals.
Nazareth also dominated the statistical categories with a 40-34 edge in shots and a 56-29 advantage in ground balls. Nazareth also won 15 of 22 face-offs with
Kyle McLean winning 8 of 13 and
Chris Law capturing 7 of 9. Brown and McLean each had six ground balls.
Junior
Todd Dermody played all 60 minutes in goal and had 14 saves.
Nazareth travels to Dallas for its next two games. The Golden Flyers play St. Lawrence Monday at the Episcopal School of Dallas at 7:30 p.m. central time and Western New England Saturday Southern Methodist University at 5 p.m.
