ROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Men's Volleyball (7-8, 0-1) fell to St. John Fisher (5-5, 1-2), 3-0, in the Golden Flyers United Volleyball Conference opener Wednesday night inside Kidera Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth battled through 11 ties in the opening set, drawing even at 10-10 and 14-14 behind kills from Ryan Murphy, Sean Frawley and Tristan Henderson. Tied 20-20 late, three straight Nazareth attack errors sparked a decisive 4-0 swing, despite a Quinn Ringstad kill that stalled set point. The Cardinals then converted a kill to take the set, 25-21.
- The Golden Flyers built a 5-2 lead in the second on a Joe Seliger service ace and a forced error, but a 9-1 run flipped a 6-2 Nazareth advantage into an 11-6 deficit. Murphy and AJ Burda produced key sideout kills to close within 18-16 and 21-19 but Nazareth couldn't string together stops late and dropped the set, 25-20.
- Both teams traded points early in the third set before Murphy, Frawley and Henderson helped the Golden Flyers seize a 22-21 late edge. Nazareth fought off set point to even it at 25-25, but back-to-back Fisher kills ended the rally as the Golden Flyers fell, 27-25.
GAME NOTES
- Ryan Murphy led the Golden Flyers with 14 points on 13 kills at .579, one service ace and two digs. The performance is his seventh of the season with double digit kills while hitting over .300.
- AJ Burda added 27 assists, four digs and one service ace for his 12th game of the year with double-digit helpers.
