SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (0-13) fell to Manhattanville (7-5) and Union (11-6), 3-0, Saturday afternoon inside Union's Viniar Athletic Center.
MATCH ONE - MANHATTANVILLE 3, NAZARETH 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth and Manhattanville went back and forth to start the first set before the Valiants closed out the frame on a 11-1 run to take the set, 25-11.
- Manhattanville grabbed a 12-5 lead to start the second set before Nazareth came back to tie it at 18. The Valiants took five of the next six points to go up 23-17 until the Golden Flyers leveled the frame again at 23. Manhattanville registered the final two scores to win the set, 25-23.
- Nazareth earned a 8-4 advantage to begin the final set before Manhattanville recorded a 5-0 to lead 9-8. Both opponents traded points in the back half of the frame until the Valiants came out on top, 25-20.
GAME NOTES
- Leah Fusilli led the Golden Flyers with nine kills for the second straight match. She added a team-high 12 digs, one block and one service ace for 9.5 points.
- Madeline Saunders tallied a season-best 20 assists to bring her fall total to 70
MATCH TWO - UNION 3, NAZARETH 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth established a 8-5 lead to open the first set before Union used both a 3-0 and a 5-0 run to reclaim a 16-12 edge. The Garnet Chargers held the Golden Flyers to just three more points to win the frame 25-15.
- Union scored nine straight points to start the second set and continued to chip away at Nazareth, ending the stanza with five consecutive scores to take it 25-10.
- The Garnet Chargers owned a 11-6 advantage early in the third set before the Golden Flyers tallied four straight scores to come within one, 11-10.
- Union extended its lead in the final set with a 13-0 run to force match point, 24-10. Nazareth saved two match points before a Garnet Charger kill ended the frame, 25-12.
GAME NOTES
- Leah Fusilli collected a team-high eight kills, nine digs and one service error for nine points
- Anna Malbone led Golden Flyer setters with seven assists
