ROCHESTER, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (0-14, 0-1) dropped its Empire 8 opener to SUNY Geneseo (8-7, 1-0), 3-0, Friday night inside Kidera Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo jumped out to a 9-3 lead to start the first set before using three, 3-0 runs to take a 18-7 advantage. The Knights continued to add onto their lead until claiming a 25-15 set victory.
- Nazareth took command early in the second set, ahead 16-11 until Geneseo came back to tie it up at 19. The Knights forced a Golden Flyer timeout before recording five straight points to gain a 24-20 edge. Nazareth tacked on one more point but Geneseo took the second set 25-21.
- Both opponents traded points to begin the final set until the Knights earned seven of the next eight points to go up 12-4. Geneseo furthered its edge with three, 3-0 runs to lead 24-11 before closing out the set 25-14.
GAME NOTES
- Leah Fusilli notched a season-high 13 kills against Geneseo, her second double-digit kills performance this fall. She added a team-best nine digs and a .250 hitting percentage for 13 total points.
- Madeline Saunders recorded a team-high 18 assists, her second consecutive game with double-digit helpers and third this season. She tacked on a season-best eight digs from the back row.
- Zipporah Sparkman tallied a season-high three blocks on two block assists and one solo block against the Knights.
