HILTON, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Men's and Women's Soccer picked up the first Empire 8 weekly honors of the season Tuesday after earning three wins during opening weekend.
Senior goalkeeper Delaney Malone recorded her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor after two shutout performances over Endicott and Grove City. She tallied 10 saves on 26 shots faced to register two winning decisions.
Malone came up huge in the 72nd minute against Endicott when the Golden Flyers surrendered a penalty kick. The senior stood tall, diving to her right and stopping the knee-high shot headed towards the side netting.
Senior forward Gibson Spector also collected a Co-Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring two goals in Nazareth's 4-1 win over the University of Rochester. All three of the senior's shots against the Yellowjackets also came on goal.
