Men's Soccer Delivers Impressive 4-1 Win Over U of R

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Gibson Spector scored twice, along with goals from Braden Callahan and Tyler Warmington to help lift Nazareth 4-1 over the University of Rochester on Sunday at Golden Flyer Stadium in the season opener. The win for the Golden Flyers was the first over the Yellowjackets since 1999.

How it Happened:
  • Warmington scored Nazareth's first goal of the year on a beautiful through ball from Carson Keller. Keller weighted a pass behind the defense and Warmington outpaced everyone to slot it into the right corner.
  • Nazareth didn't take long to score in the second half, taking advantage of a free kick just outside of the box. Spencer Neil rocked a driven ball that rendered a rebound for Spector to tap in.
  • Rochester converted a header opportunity in the 52nd minute to pull within 2-1.
  • Callahan netted his first-career goal in the 57th minute to help give Nazareth some much-needed breathing room. He took a pass from 25-yards out from Neil and lofted a one-timer over the keeper to make it 3-1.
  • Spector notched his second of the day in the 66th minute off a corner kick from Callahan. A side-volley from Neil found the head of Spector before going into the net.
  • First year Bryan Tirado made his first career start in net, making seven saves.
Game Notes:
  • Nazareth last beat Rochester 3-1 on October 16, 1999. The two squads had matched up 12 times since Nazareth's last win in 1999.
  • The multi-goal game was the second of Spector's career. He had two goals against Utica on 10/19/24.
What's Next:
  • Nazareth will travel Potsdam, NY next weekend for a tournament. The Golden Flyers take on Baruch at 4 p.m. on Friday and SUNY ESF on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
