Nazareth Falls to Johns Hopkins In Straight Sets

HUNTINGDON, PA - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (0-8) fell to Johns Hopkins (7-3), 3-0, Friday evening inside Memorial Gymnasium at Juniata College.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Johns Hopkins opened the first set with an early 8-3 lead and never looked back, using an efficient attack to take the frame 25-14. Nazareth managed four kills in the set, including two from senior Leah Fusilli, but the Blue Jays closed on a 6-2 run to secure the opener.

 
  • The Golden Flyers struggled to find the rhythm in the second set, as Hopkins raced out to a 12-6 advantage. Nazareth trimmed the deficit with a small run, but the Blue Jays responded with seven of the next nine points to put the set out of reach, 25-13. 

 
  • Nazareth kept things close in the early stages. Seniors Liz Moran and Sydney Spence each notched kills to keep the score within striking distance at 9-7, but Hopkins answered with a 10-3 run to stretch the lead. The Blue Jays held on to close the frame, 25-15, and the match in straight sets. 

 

QUICK FACTS: 

  • Fusilli paced the Golden Flyers with three kills, adding four digs and a service ace.

  • Moran and Spence chipped in two kills apiece, with each contributing one block. Spence also added a service ace. 

  • Sophomore Hailey Trank led the setting effort with six assists, while freshman Katie Evans and Madeline Saunders each had two. 

  • Defensively, senior Jenna Mattison recorded a team-high seven digs, followed by Sarah Harvey with six. 

 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Golden Flyers return to action on the road, against Juniata College on Saturday September 20, at 11 a.m.
