ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's tennis team took two doubles matches (first/third) and defeated East Avenue rival St. John Fisher 7-2 on Tuesday night at the Golisano Training Center.
Nazareth is now 8-5 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play, while Fisher drops to 0-7 and 0-2, respectively.
At first doubles,
Max Funiciello and
Griffin Bond cruised to an 8-3 win. After trailing 4-3 at third doubles,
Pierre Ntonga and
David Tuller stormed back to win the next five games and take the match 8-4.
Bond won first singles on a retire, while Ntonga took third singles 6-3, 6-2.
Noah Britton rolled to a fourth singles win 6-0, 6-0.
Chris Benedict was a winner at fifth singles breaking a 5-5 tie to win the opening set 7-5 and winning the second 6-1.
Timmy Taylor was the final winner at sixth singles 6-0, 0-6, 1-0 (10-4).
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Penn State Behrend at 7 pm.
