ONEONTA, N.Y. – Nazareth defeated Hartwick 23-9 in a men's Empire 8 lacrosse game Saturday afternoon. The Golden Flyers showed off their potent and balanced attack with 13 different players finding the scoresheet including first-career goals from
Jonathan Zylinsky,
Braden Gioseffi, and
George Monahan. With two goals on the day,
Quinn McKercher set the program record for career goals with 191, surpassing Luke Wooters' 190 career goals set in 2013-16.
With the victory, Nazareth has won four consecutive games and improves to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in Empire 8 contests. Following the loss, the Hawks drop to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference games.
The Golden Flyers took the lead midway through the first quarter when
Owen Riley scored a pair of goals in a span of 1:51. Following two straight goals by the Hawks,
Louis Cogliandro, who tallied a game-high four goals, reclaimed Nazareth's lead after receiving a pass from
Matthew Farrington. Hartwick evened the score again just 42 seconds later to make it 3-3.
Congliandro's unassisted goal less than a minute into the second quarter set the tone for nearly 40 minutes of action as the Golden Flyers outscored the Hawks 18-3 during that span.
Goals by
Quinn McKercher,
Kyle Rosenberger, and
Andy Hamel stretched Nazareth's lead to 7-3 with 7:42 to play in the second. After back-to-back Hartwick goals cut the Golden Flyers' lead to two,
Joey Hathorn and
William O'Neill reclaimed Nazareth's four-goal advantage before the end of the half.
Similar to the second quarter, the Golden Flyers scored in the opening minute of the third when
William Meagher found the back of the net. Rosenberger and Cogliandro stretched Nazareth's lead to seven goals, 12-5, a few minutes later. The Golden Flyers put the game out of reach with four goals in the final 5:25 of the third to take a 16-6 lead going into the final stanza. Hamel, Farrington, Cogliandro, and Hathorn each found the back of the net during the run.
Nazareth's dominance continued in the fourth quarter as the Golden Flyers recorded five straight goals to take a 21-6 advantage. McKercher started the run and it was capped Monahan's first goal of the season. Zylinsky and Gioseffi finished the Golden Flyers' scoring when they scored in the final five minutes of regulation.
Defensively,
Cole Slimak and
Salvatore DiFilippo recorded two caused turnovers apiece, and
Jakob Denkenberger won 24 of 31 faceoffs while collecting a game-high 18 ground balls.
McLean Ralston earned the victory between the pipes as he finished with seven saves and allowed six goals in 50:54.
Andrew Adams and
Zac Isaac also played 5:40 and 3:26, respectively, in the Nazareth net.
The Golden Flyers look to continue their winning streak when they host Keuka at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9th, at 4 p.m.
