ROCHESTER, NY – In the first-ever meeting between Nazareth and SUNY Poly, the Golden Flyers took down the Wildcats 17-6 on Wednesday in conference play.
Quinn McKercher led Naz with five points (4G, 1A), while
William O'Neill (4G) and
William Meagher (3G, 1A) each had four points.
Jakob Denkenberger tied a Nazareth single game record with 20 ground balls, also held by lacrosse hall of famer Drew Simoneau (3/29/14 against Elmira).
Nazareth is now 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Empire 8 play, while Poly drops to 5-3 and 1-1 in league play.
Denkenberger was lights out at the faceoff x, winning 23-of-25, his only losses coming on violations.
Nazareth led 7-0 after a quarter and scored the first 10 goals of the game. The Wildcats first goal came with 2:07 left in the half.
Poly had a decent third quarter, outscoring Naz 4-1, before Nazareth took the fourth 5-1.
McLean Ralston got the start and played a quarter, making two saves.
Andrew Adams got the majority of the action (24:47), making seven saves and allowing four goals.
Colin Perks made one save and allowed one goal (6:29), while
Zac Isaac (13:44) allowed a goal and made one save.
Andy Hamel had a goal and two assists, while
Joey Hathorn (1G, 2A) had three points.
Alex Garrow,
Kyle Rosenberger,
Louis Cogliandro, and
Matthew Farrington each tallied a goal.
Nazareth travels to Hartwick on Saturday for a 2 pm contest.
