Women’s Soccer Suffers 2-1 Defeat at Fredonia

Fredonia, N.Y. – Unbeaten in their last four games, Nazareth ran into a hot offense in Fredonia State to suffer their third loss of the season. They struggled to capitalize in a game where they carried the pace of play and out-shot their opponents 18 to 11. The Golden Flyers move to 4-3-2 on the season, while Fredonia advances to 4-4-3.

How It Happened
  • Fredonia, fresh off of a 6-0 win over SUNY Canton, wasted no time getting on the scoreboard only 30 seconds into Tuesday's match.
  • In the 37th minute, Nazareth saw near-perfect strike from freshman Giuliana Rodriguez that hit the inside of the left post. She was sent in on a well-placed through-ball from senior Mikaela Campbell
  • The Golden Flyers managed to tie things up in the 41st minute off of an accurate corner from Rodriguez that found freshman Emily Nickson, who's header made it past the Blue Devils keeper.
  • Only two minutes later Fredonia answered, scoring on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to go up 2-1.
  • Nazareth came out swinging to open the second half, generating a handful of chances and once again dominating the possession of the ball. They carried play for the first 10 minutes of the second half until their pressure was broken by a dangerous chance from Fredonia that was saved by sophomore keeper Katriana Walls
  • In the 57th minute, junior Brynn Furbeck took a hard shot from just outside the box that had to be handled carefully by the Fredonia goalkeeper.
  • Senior Mikaela Campbell came close to tying things up as she drove in on a breakaway against the Blue Devils keeper, but was narrowly called for an offside just before she could capitalize.
  • Freshman Emily Nickson took a rocket of a shot off of the crossbar in the 85th minute, in search of her second of the game and an equalizer for her team. Her opportunity would mark the final one for Nazareth
  • Fredonia managed to kill the final few minutes of the match in the Nazareth corner to take the victory in this hard-fought match
