ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Men's basketball cruised past Keuka 87-58 on Saturday evening to take home another conference win.
Tyler Putney led Nazareth's scoring with 30 points, in which eight buckets were from behind the arc, giving Putney the tie in the Nazareth record book for most threes in one game.
With the win, Nazareth's record improves to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference, while Keuka drops to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
The first 13 minutes of the game were very back and forth, neither team holding a lead of more than two possessions at a time until the 7:13 minute mark when Nazareth went up 22-14. In the remaining seven minutes of the half, Nazareth continued to build on the lead little-by-little to give them an 11-point advantage at 29-18 heading into the second half of play.
Scoring for Nazareth in the first half was Putney with eight,
Jaylen Savage with seven,
Merritt Holly with six,
Jack Broderick with four, and
Luke Insley and
Liam Hopwood with two each.
Nazareth turned it up in the second half, nearly doubling its shooting percentage to 63.64 from the field, and tripling its three point percentage to 64.29. With the Golden Flyers' hot shooting in the second half, by the 10 minute mark, Nazareth was up by 30. For the remainder of the game, the Golden Flyers hovered around that 30-point lead to ultimately get the 87-58 win over the Wolves.
Putney led the scoring for Nazareth with 30, going 11-18 from the field and 8-15 from the arc. He also added five rebounds. Savage had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, as well as adding four assists. Insley had another impressive night with 13 assists, while also putting up four points.
J Broderick scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Flyers, while Holly had ten points and eight rebounds.
Zachary McFarland and
Will Burnett added five and four points respectively.
Ryan Broderick,
Gabe Lucarelli, and Hopwood each added a bucket while Hopwood also grabbed five rebounds.
The Golden Flyers will be on the road for the next five contests, starting with St. John Fisher on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for a Battle of the Beaks showdown.
