NEW YORK, NY – The Nazareth women's basketball squad faced the ultimate test on Thursday, falling 109-40 at NYU, the #1-ranked team in the nation.
With the loss, Nazareth drops to 6-3, while the Violets move to 10-0.
It was a game dominated by the Violets from the start as they held Nazareth to just six points in the first quarter and trailed 36-6.
Two of the biggest statistics that stood out in the game were NYU holding a 58-24 edge on the boards, including grabbing 22 offensive rebounds. In addition, Nazareth turned the ball of 34 times, compared to 16 for NYU.
Nazareth was 15-for-55 (27.3 percent) while NYU shot over 50 percent in the game on 43-for-83 from the field.
Molly Benetti led Nazareth with 10 points and also had three blocks.
Sarina McDowell added nine points and three rebounds, while
Katie MacLachlan had six points and two steals.
Madilann Johnson contributed five points.
Nazareth has a quick turnaround and will travel to Gwyned Mercy University at 2 p.m. on Friday.
