GRANTHAM, PA – The #17 Nazareth men's volleyball team finished its weekend 1-2 after splitting its Saturday matches at Messiah. Nazareth opened with a three set win over Randolph-Macon before falling in straight sets to Messiah.
Nazareth is 4-3 on the season.
Nazareth defeats Randolph-Macon 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-19)
Nazareth hit .302 in the match, including .480 in the second and .344 in the third set. In all, the Golden Flyers delivered 41 kills on 96 attempts with just 12 errors.
After dropping five-straight points and clinging to a 22-21 lead,
Owen Wickens and
Alex Bertino notched kills to help Naz within 1-point of the set. Following two Randolph-Macon points, an attack error helped the Golden Flyers take the set.
Nazareth cruised in the final two sets.
Wickens hit .364 with 11 kills and eight digs.
AJ Burda dished out 20 assists and had nine kills.
Max Stuver had 14 assists and five kills.
Quinn Ringstad delivered six kills and
Andrew Bodensteiner had three block assists.
Messiah defeats Nazareth 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-22)
The Golden Flyers had a poor start in the first set, giving up two 4-point runs and were never able to claw out of it.
In the second, with Nazareth trailing17-16, each squad went back and forth trading points, only to have the Falcons close out the set.
Bertino brought Nazareth within 23-22 in the third before Messiah scored two-straight to seal the win. He had six kills on a .357 attack percentage.
Wickens led Nazareth with eight kills. Freshman
Ryan Murphy had a career-high six kills.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday, traveling to Aurora University, taking on the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. and North Park University at 7 p.m.
