ROCHESTER, NY - Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year Tyler Stenglein scored the go-ahead bucket with 3.1 seconds to go to help lift the top-seeded Golden Flyers to a 66-64 victory over Utica College in the championship game on February 24, 2018.
Nazareth led by as many as 11 points with just over six minutes to play but the Pioneers were able to chip into the lead and tie the game with :22 seconds to play. Off a timeout, Brendan Wind found a cutting Stenglein for what would prove to be the game-winning basket. A last-second heave from half court was off the mark for the Pioneers.
Stenglein was named the MVP of the Championships after finishing with 12 points, four steals, three assists and three rebounds.
Jake Burgio led all scorers with 21 points, while also collecting six rebounds to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
Nazareth finished the year 20-8, falling in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships to Hamilton.
