Huge Second Quarter Lifts Men’s Lacrosse over Keuka

KEUKA PARK, NY – Senior Quinn McKercher and sophomore Kyle Rosenberger scored three goals each in a 12-1 run in the second quarter for the Nazareth University Men's Lacrosse team as the Golden Flyers went on to post a 21-5 victory over the Wolves in Empire 8 action Wednesday.

The win clinches at least a third-place finish in the Empire 8 standings for Nazareth (10-6 overall, 4-1 Empire 8). The final standings will come down to the final game of the season as Nazareth hosts Alfred with the winner moving into the second-place position in the final regular season standings.

Nazareth hosts Alfred at 1 p.m. Saturday on the NLPA Turf Field.

McKercher scored the first goal of the game 1:02 into the contest but Keuka (5-7, 0-5 Empire 8) tied the game three minutes later.

Sophomore Matthew Farrington and senior Quinn Conroy scored back-to-back goals to build a 3-1 lead before Keuka scored with four minutes remaining in the opening period to trim the lead to 3-2.

The second quarter was all Nazareth with a dominating 12-1 score in the period.

McKercher and Farrington scored 10 seconds apart early in the period and then sophomore William Meagher scored.

McKercher added his third of the game and second of the quarter before Rosenberg netted three consecutive goals in a span of less than two minutes as Nazareth built a 10-2 lead.

Another goal by McKercher and a goal by freshman Luke Bobby added to the lead before Keuka stopped the run with the lone goal of the period for the Wolves.

Farrington, freshman Anthony Menickelli and junior Jakob Denkenberger scored to wrap up the 12-1 period as Nazareth led 15-3 at halftime.

Junior Andy Hamel opened the second half scoring before junior Michael Bergan scored a pair of goals and Bobby adding hos second of the game for a quick 4-0 Nazareth run to start the third quarter.

Each team scored twice in the final quarter with Bergan picking up his third goal and senior Sal Ingrassia added a goal for the Golden Flyers.

Rosenberger (3g-2a) and McKercher (4g-1a) had five points each while Farrington finished with three goals and an assist for four points. Conroy (1g-2a) and junior Owen Riley (0g-3a) had three points each.

Nazareth goalies McLean Ralson, Zac Isaac and Colin Perks made three saves each.

Nazareth will finish the regular season Saturday against Alferd and celebrate senior day prior to the start of the game.
