ONEONTA, NY – Sophomore Matthew Farrington scored six goals while seniors Quinn Conroy and Quinn McKercher recorded six points each to lead the Nazareth University Men's Lacrosse team to a convincing 25-9 win over Empire 8 foe Hartwick Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak.
Nazareth (9-6 overall, 3-1 Empire 8) scored the first eight goals of the game and had a 15-6 lead at halftime. An 8-1 scoring advantage in the third quarter allowed the Golden Flyers to open a 23-7 lead and each team scored twice in the final period.
Eight different players scored for Nazareth in the first quarter as the Golden Flyers opened an 8-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game.
Farrington had a goal in the run and added three more in the second period to help Nazareth to the 15-6 halftime edge.
He added the first goal of the second half just 38 seconds into the period as the Golden Flyers rattled off the first four goals of the quarter.
After Hartwick (3-8, 1-3 Empire 8) scored to pause the run, Nazareth tacked on four more goals before the end of the period.
In the final quarter, Farrington capped his high-scoring day and senior Sal Ingrassia capped the scoring for Nazareth.
Farrington had six points with his six goals, Conroy added four goals and two assists and McKercher scored twice and handed out four assists to lead the offense. Sophomore Kyle Rosenberger had three goals and an assist while junior Owen Riley added two goals and two assists. Sophomore William O'Neill scored twice for Nazareth.
Sophomore McLean Ralston played nearly three quarters and made nine saves, freshman Zac Isaac added seven saves in 11 minutes and junior Colin Perks added a save as the Nazareth goalies combined to make 17 saves on the day.
Nazareth will play at Keuka Wednesday and finish the regular season Saturday at home against Alfred. Wins in the final two games would give the Golden Flyers second place in the final Empire 8 standings.
