ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Kate Metzler scored three of her team-leading four goals in the first quarter as the Nazareth University Women's Lacrosse team built an early 5-0 lead and cruised to a 13-5 victory Wednesday afternoon on the NLPA Turf Field.
Graduate student Maggie Vay scored the first goal of the game just 31 seconds into the contest before Metzler scored twice in a span of 33 seconds to boost the lead to 3-0. Junior Julia Dietz scored a minute later and then Metzler scored her third goal of the quarter with 41 seconds remaining as Nazareth (6-7 overall, 3-1 Empire 8) took the early 5-0 lead.
Keuka (1-11, 0-5 Empire 8) scored three of the first four goals in the second period to trim the lead but Vay and senior Liddie Hoare scored before halftime to regain the five-goal advantage heading into the intermission.
Hoare and junior Makenna Misiurewicz scored in the third quarter to add to the lead.
Metzler added her fourth goal of the game early in the final quarter and junior Emily Reichard scored her first two goals of the season to cap the Golden Flyers scoring.
Sophomore Allie Klestinec made four saves and graduate student Makenna Wiljanen added a pair of saves in the Nazareth goal. Misiurewicz led Nazareth with six draw controls and senior Maggie Gannon added three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Nazareth will face St. John Fisher Saturday with just two Empire 8 game remaining on the schedule.
