ROCHESTER, NY – Visiting Oswego scored seven goals in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner as time expired, to down Nazareth 13-12 on Wednesday at Golden Flyer Stadium. It was the Golden Flyers third-straight loss and first-ever to Oswego.
Kyle Rosenberger tied a career-high with five goals in the loss.
Nazareth is now 8-6 overall, while the Lakers are 9-3.
Nazareth did well the first quarter and a half of play, building a 6-1 lead after
Andy Hamel scored his 10
th of the season from
William O'Neill. O'Neill finished with three goals and two assists.
A big reason for the strong start was
Jakob Denkenberger winning 10-of-12 faceoffs in the half.
Oswego, however shifted the tides, scoring the last four goals in a 2:10 span to close the margin to 6-5 at the break.
The Golden Flyers outscored the Lakers 3-1 in the third quarter with two goals from O'Niell and one from
Brendan Regan.
Rosenberger scored his fourth of the day to give the Golden Flyers a 10-7 lead with under 13 minutes to play. However, the Golden Flyers were hampered in the fourth at the faceoff circle, losing all 10 which proved to be pivotal down the stretch.
The score was tied at 11 and again at 12. Nazareth called a timeout with :21 seconds to play but a late turnover allowed the Lakers to run down for a last-second rush which they were able to convert into the game-winning goal.
Matthew Farrington went for a goal and four assists, while
Quinn McKercher added one goal and three assists.
McLean Ralston made 12 saves in net.
Nazareth will travel to Hartwick on Saturday for a 3 p.m. start time.
