FAIRFIELD, CT – Sophomores Dylan Fairchild and Rashawn Bowen each scored a try in the second half to lead the Nazareth University Rugby team to a 24-12 victory over Syracuse University Saturday at the Liberty Rugby Conference (LRC) Tournament.
Nazareth dropped early matches to Brown (38-0) and American International (17-5) before winning the match against the Orangemen.
The Golden Flyers ended the day with a loss to Dartmouth and finished in a tie for seventh place in the tournament.
Sophomores Aiden Pavlek and Dajour Holmes scored tries early against Syracuse for a 12-0 Nazareth lead. Syracuse answered wit two scores before halftime to knot the score at 12-12.
Bowen scored to give the Golden Flyers a 19-12 lead and then senior Jacob Townsand caused a turnover and Fairchild scored as time expired for the 24-12 victory.
Pavlek scored against American International and Holmes had the Nazareth try in the finale against Dartmouth.
Nazareth will host the Golden Flyers 7's Tournament Saturday with matches against RIT, Colgate and LeMoyne.
