Women’s Lacrosse Runs Away from Alfred with Empire 8 Win

ALFRED, NY – Senior Liddie Hoare recorded six points and junior Makenna Misiurewicz added five points to lead the Nazareth University Women's Lacrosse team to a convincing 15-5 victory over Alfred University Wednesday afternoon in an Empire 8 road game.

Alfred (5-6 overall, 1-1 Empire 8) took an early lead with the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the game.

Nazareth (5-7, 2-1 Empire 8) responded with a seven-goal run over the rest of the quarter. Hoare had two goals and three assists in the run for the 7-1 Nazareth lead.

The Saxons scored the first two goals of the second period to trim the lead to 7-3, but Nazareth rattled off six consecutive goals through the end of the second quarter and into the fourth quarter to extend the lead to double digits at 13-3.

Misiurewicz had two of the goals in the run while seniors Maggie Vay and Emily Paddock added goals and junior Julia Deitz chipped in a goal and two assists in the pivotal run.

In the closing minutes, the teams traded goals as Misiurewicz and freshman MacKenzie Dixson each scored for Nazareth and the Golden Flyers took the 15-5 decision.

Misiurewicz finished with five points on four goals and one assist while Hoare had three goals and three assists for her six points. Seniors Kate Metzler and Caraline Riley had two goals each. Sophomore Allie Klestinec had seven saves and graduate student Makenna Wiljanen added two saves in the Nazareth goal.

Nazareth is off until next Wednesday with a home game at 4 p.m. against Keuka. The game has been designated as Morgan's Message game to raise awareness for the fight against students battling mental health issues.
