McKercher Scores Five; Nazareth Downs Ithaca 13-4

ITHACA, NY – Senior Quinn McKercher scored five goals and added one assist to lead the Nazareth University Men's Lacrosse team to a 13-4 win on the road at Ithaca College Wednesday afternoon. The win was the first for the Golden Flyers over Ithaca since 2017 when Nazareth defeated the Bombers 14-13 in overtime in the Empire 8 Tournament.

McKercher moved up all three scoring lists at Nazareth as he passed Neal Powless and Brent Rothfuss on the all-time career goals list as he moved from 123 career goals to 128 in eighth place overall. McKercher also moved into seventh position in the all-time career points list with 195 points.

Against Ithaca (2-2), the Golden Flyers scored twice in the first quarter as sophomores Kyle Rosenberger and William Meagher each scored to give Nazareth (2-2) the early lead.

Early in the second quarter, sophomore Louis Cogliandro gave Nazareth a 3-0 advantage 2:12 into the period.

Ithaca scored three minutes later to make it a 3-1 game before Nazareth rattled off three more goals with McKercher, Cogliandro and Meagher each tallied to stretch the lead to 6-1 before the end of the first half.

The Bombers scored to start the third quarter but another Nazareth run put the game out of reach as the Golden Flyers scored six straight goals including three by McKercher. Cogliandro added his third of the game and Rosenberger scored his second and freshman Anthony Menickelli netted his first career goal in the run.

With Nazareth ahead 12-2, Ithaca finally scored to stop the run. McKercher added his fifth of the day before Ithaca capped the scoring.

Sophomore goalie McLean Ralston made 13 saves to earn the win.

McKercher's six points led Nazareth while Cogliandro added three points with his three goals and sophomore Matthew Farrington handed out three assists and Meagher had two goals and one assist.

Nazareth returns home to face No. 14 St. Lawrence at 2 p.m. Saturday on NLPA Turf Field.
